We love families with children and want to share our family
vacation home with other families. This is not a cottage for
all-night parties or loud music or a bunch of buddies getting away.
Smoke-free and pet-free property. Renters must do a
thorough cleaning prior to leaving. We cater to families with
cottage is set back from Lake Huron, amongst cedar trees, and
provides lots of privacy from the road and neighbours. Be prepared
to see paddlers or a family of geese pass by in the water.
The main cottage is a clean one-story bungalow, with all-pine
interior. Most rooms have ceiling fans, and as the cottage is
surrounded by rock and trees, it is usually a comfortable
temperature inside. Each room has windows that open. You enter a
small foyer where outerwear can be stored, and then you head into
the kitchen with a microwave, 24" oven/stove top and a full fridge
with a small freezer on top, plus cupboards full of kitchenware
including crock pot, coffee maker, toaster, George Foreman grill,
casserole dishes, salad spinner, cutting boards, dishes, glassware,
cutlery etc. There are also extra containers for you to take your
leftover food in, for those hikes on the Bruce Trail. Paper towels,
standard condiments and plastic wrap are supplied, as well as tea
towels and dish soap. The water is tested monthly and is safe to
drink. However, we prefer to bring water for drinking, and you may
wish to do so also. There is a BBQ outside - tin foil provided.
Remember though - clean the BBQ after each use, or a bear may find
kitchen, you see into the open concept dining area/living area.
There is a large pine table for everyone to gather at, whether for a
board game, or for a meal, or just good conversation. It's an easy
move to the sofa, two matching chairs, or two rocking chairs.
Satellite TV is available.
The full bathroom features a tub with shower, plus toilet and
sink in a vanity. Shampoo, liquid soap and toilet tissue
Bedroom #1 has
a closet and built-in drawers and has an Ikea white iron queen-sized
bed that is already made up with linens for you. The new mattress is
also has a closet and built-in drawers, and has two bunkbeds. The
first features a single-over-single bed, and the second features a
single-over-double bed. Again, these mattresses are quality foam
from Foamite and Ikea, and are made up and ready for you to sleep
The front sun room is our favourite - it is a great place to
sit and read or just watch the water from the windows covering two
You can also head out onto the front patio from the sun room.
Outdoor patio furniture is available, including folding chairs that
you can lie in, or sit in, or move to around the fire pit. We do
supply your first night of firewood, and then there are numerous
places in the area to purchase more.
children, the attached bunkie can be accessed as well (included in
cost, but must be requested prior). Like the main cottage building,
it is decorated entirely with pine. There is a closet and two
extra-long twin beds with Foamite mattresses. Sheets and pillows
adorn the bunkie beds. A small bathroom can be found there as well -
sink and toilet only.
If you are
looking for even more privacy, there is an enclosed gazebo with a
couch, lamps, and two hammocks.
The property is set back from the water about 150 feet, but
it is a quick walk to the water's edge, where it is shallow enough
to let young children play, and deep enough for adults to swim. The
water is clear, and water shoes are provided - the bottom varies
from flat rock to boulders. Often, you can see baby geese by, or
paddlers, No kayaks or canoes are available on site, but can be
rented locally and put in here. It is about a ten minute paddle to
go directly across the bay, or you can spend endless time just
paddling around in the bay. More experienced paddlers can head north
or south along the shoreline of Lake Huron. The waters can be
From the road, you see lots of cedars and only a very quick
glimpse of the cottage. After you go back the driveway, the property
opens up to the buildings and to small white stone landscaping over
most of the property. There are plenty of trees separating you from
the neighbours. Children may enjoy playing Robin Hood amongst the
trees and into the tree fort.
The property is a 10-minute drive from Tobermory, where you
will find a grocery store, churches, library, internet access,
ChiCheeman ferry to Manitoulin Island, diving, tennis court, golf
course, laundromat, airport, Fathom Five National Park, Parks Canada
visitor centre, and eateries and shops.
It is also a short drive to Singing Sands beach and walkway,
Bruce Trail, Cabot Head Lighthouse, Dunks Bay sand beach, Bruce
Peninsula National Park, Flowerpot Island (requires boat ride). You
will find an abundance of outdoor hiking and exploring
Wildlife enjoys the serenity, and you will be sure to see
plenty of birds, snakes, squirrels and chipmunks. Although you can
feed them peanuts at the fire pit, you must be conscientious of
cleaning up food - inside and outside - there have been bears
If you are looking for R&R, in a clean, quiet setting,
unplugged, then this may be the place for you. It is a country
setting, so if the hydro was to go off, you have no water (except
from the lake). There is no telephone on site - cell phones usually
work. Public telephones are located in Tobermory.
If your family is looking for a quiet, safe vacation,
consider our cottage. Remember that it is self-cleaning when you
leave - extensive check list can be sent to you prior.
Remember, you don't have to deal with bedding (a real time and
space saver)! We do require a written agreement prior to renting as
well. This ensures that everyone has an enjoyable stay. There is
a $500 damage/security/cleaning deposit required as well.
Rates are $150/night for a minimum of three nights. Maximum
six people including four adults (18+). All payments must
clear three weeks prior to arrival.
